In Life, You Will Have Either Excuses or Success

Life often asks us the same question, just dressed in different forms: “Will you surrender to circumstances, or will you transform them?” Excuses are like invisible chains — they comfort us temporarily, but in the long run, they keep us stuck in place. Phrases such as “I don’t have time,” “The conditions aren’t right,” or “Now isn’t the right moment” may sound reasonable at first. Yet without realizing it, they trap us in the comfort of inaction. Success, however, does not walk beside those who wait for the perfect moment; it accompanies those who can take action even under imperfect conditions.

What truly separates two people living under the same circumstances is not the conditions themselves, but the meaning they assign to them. Excuses may offer short-term relief, but over time they turn into a defense mechanism that erodes motivation and weakens self-confidence. Success begins outside the comfort zone. We either spend our energy explaining why we couldn’t do something, or we direct that energy toward discovering how we can. This statement points precisely to that mental crossroads.

The common trait of successful people is not that they are luckier than others, but that they know how to say goodbye to excuses. From this perspective, here is a practical exercise you can apply in daily life: the excuse-catching exercise. Whenever you catch yourself saying “I don’t have time,” “The conditions aren’t right,” or “It’s not the right moment,” pause and ask yourself: “Is this a fact, or an excuse that’s trying to protect me?” Then replace that sentence with a small action. For example, instead of “I don’t have time,” try saying, “I can spare 10 minutes for this today.” As we shrink our excuses, our action-taking muscle grows stronger, and success becomes more attainable.

There is only one real question to ask souls who dedicate themselves to becoming their best: “What did you do with the resources you had?” A small step is always more valuable than a perfect excuse. Because success is not born from sudden, dramatic leaps, but from small, brave choices repeated day after day. At some point in life, we all face this choice: Either we grow our excuses, or we grow ourselves. And as always, the choice is ours.
