Motivation 4.0
As technology advances, we are doing more, faster, easier and simpler. We use the internet to shop, and we use smartphones to access the internet. Each of us broadcasts like a media company, and carries out commercial works by eliminating institutions. In the internet world, borders are becoming meaningless day by day. In this process, we humans are becoming more virtual than ever before. The virtual world, which has become a means of maintaining our existence, seems to soon replace the real world.
The rate of change in technology is so high that the newcomer of your generation Most of the professions he will work in have not yet emerged. It will come as no surprise that very soon a Chinese doctor will connect you from Beijing to your local hospital via a robotic system to perform your brain surgery. Or, choosing one of the virtual reality packages of a software company, not a local tourism company, for a holiday and participating in a 7-day virtual trip without leaving your home will not be considered strange at all.
All these changes will soon create problems and opportunities for many people. While people and institutions that constantly improve themselves, renew themselves rapidly, produce the information required by the age and act more flexibly, benefit from these opportunities; Those who do not change, do not develop and produce will quickly enter the process of extinction. The distinction in the world has long exceeded those who produce and those who do not. Today, producers compete with those who produce better, faster, cheaper and more virtual.
There is a great struggle to direct the changes that occur in this process. Because if you cannot direct the change, this is It seems like you don't have much of a place in the world. At this point, we are discussing what the changes mean in terms of industrial development. At this stage, an answer is sought to the question of whether we are on the verge of a revolution. Some are close to the answer to this question.
Endüstri 4.0
Industry 4.0, which is described as the fourth generation of the industrial revolution, refers to the new generation industry structure and production system. Industry 4.0 can be defined as a new generation industry formed by the combination of information technologies and industry activities.
In fact, the real level of the industry in the world is still 3.0, that is, the information-supported automation level. The part, which is expressed as 4.0, is currently in a kind of projection to the future. So it hasn't happened yet. But if this goes fast, it will happen in 10 years. Industry 4.0 level, in short, means that production and production systems are faster, smaller, more compactmeans to be more effective, less costly and in a much more virtual way.
There are certain features that distinguish this industry from its past models: First of all, the employees of this system are the employees of the information age, who are constantly renewing themselves, creative and well-equipped. People other than that, unfortunately, have no value for this 4.0 world. Secondly, production systems are structures with semi-autonomous decision-making capability with internet connection, primarily with a new generation software and hardware infrastructure. These systems, which can operate independently of time and space, can present a product produced anywhere in the world to consumers anywhere in the world in an "unmanned" way with smart production chains. The part that makes the difference is the autonomous coordination and communication process between objects. For example, when an ATM runs out of money, it will be able to communicate with a self-moving money tool and load it unmanned. Later in this period, it will be possible for the production processes to be carried out by “smart factories” that work completely unmanned and autonomously. So much so that while only robots are working in these factories, there will be no light.
As has always been seen in history, there will be countries and societies that shape such periods and miss these periods. 3rd Industry yet revolution It will be inevitable that societies and countries that have not even assimilated will be completely excluded from this process. The worst part is that economies and societies that do not contribute to this process will face being erased from history beyond being automatic consumers and customers of the process. We are now on the verge of a scissors that will never close from now on. The rules of the game do not change, it is now a completely different game. The rule of the new order is simple; the more virtual, fast and cheap production is desired, the less people you will need.
Winter is Coming
Fewer people means fewer cost items in the production chain. In other words, when this process is fully operational, every person without any added value will be a potential unemployed person. Even today, the current business processes and the costs they create do not have a sustainable side. In this sense, in the near future, even state structures will have to simplify and make massive layoffs. “Winter is Coming” situation, as Game of Thrones phrases, is experienced.
A fundamental difference of this period we live in is that more companies lead and direct the developments, regardless of countries. The duty of countries is to play a facilitating and supporting role with their policies. Therefore, the only way to have a say in the world economy is to train (and support) people with the skills and capacity to create these companies and/or to create suitable working conditions for existing multinational companies.
If we look at Industry 4.0 as a projection, what will be the profile, life and motivation processes of the people working in this revolutionary process?
At this point where the industry has come, organization and management models will also have to change. In fact, the flexible, creative and knowledge-intensive employees of the companies that lead the change today come together beyond physical borders and are organized virtually. Therefore, the management and motivation processes of more flexible and creative teams, which are not even in the same physical environment, are also different.
In addition to the rapidly changing and developing technology, another factor that requires this transformation is that a new generation, who grows up differently, thinks differently and has different expectations, is starting to enter business life. Information technologies are as ordinary and necessary as air and water for the Z generation, who grew up almost in the lap of the internet. Functionality, speed, practicality and virtuality are just some of the words that describe them. As such, the needs and expectations of this generation make sense that will radically change business life.
In the light of all these factors mentioned, it is necessary to change the approach to corporate motivation management in a revolutionary way. There will be a need for motivation systems suitable for business models shaped by technology and changing employee profiles. We can call a motivation management system designed in accordance with the needs of this period as Motivation 4.0.
Motivasyon 4.0’a Bir Projeksiyon
With an employee profile that is decreasing in number and increasing in quality, it is likely that the new generation of employees will need a more specific motivation management. With the new generation motivation systems, Motivation 4.0 expresses a more flexible, more creative, more humane and more virtual motivation management application. When we hold a projection to Motivation 4.0, we can summarize the features that define it as follows:
- It will be seen that the internet and information-based motivation systems and applications have become completely widespread in all institutions.
- It will be seen that genetic and personality-based motivation techniques and methods become widespread in the motivation processes of the new generation employees in institutions.
- In particular, it will become a strong (and perhaps mandatory) option that the education and training processes can be carried out completely on virtual platforms, regardless of time and place. As a result of the integration of universities and many educational institutions at all levels into online education, most of the education and training will be carried out over the internet, resulting in a cost advantage. Virtual reality applications in education and training will spread to the base.
- There will be great simplifications in the organizational structures of institutions, both horizontally and vertically. All these developments will affect the motivation processes of employees positively and negatively.
- Coercive and extrinsic motivation methods will be replaced by processes in which positive and intrinsic motivation methods are dominant.
- Loneliness in working life will emerge with loneliness and the needs and problems it creates, and the use of artificial intelligence to cope with it will become widespread.
- It will be seen that personal motivation management gains more importance with the spread of individuality and individual (virtual) work.
In the light of the developments described above, it does not seem likely that states, institutions, societies and individuals who do not realize these transformations will have a say in the development of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Even the fact that it will be erased from the stage of history in time should not be seen as a negative utopia.
Until 20 years ago, the use of information technologies in management structures and corporate motivation processes was only a discourse, 10 years ago this was seen as an option. Today, this has become a reality and a necessity.
In the light of all this information, we can say for sure: As technology advances, motivation systems and processes will inevitably change and become more "virtual". Such changes will replace the old, creating the effect of creative destruction, where the replacement destroys the old. An irreversible transformation is taking place in the world now. We are in an era in which nothing more virtual, smaller, faster, smarter and more efficient can survive.
